During a 31 year career with four different divisions of the original Bell Telephone system, Will worked throughout much of the U.S.A. including Alaska, Hawaii, New York and Florida plus several overseas locations. During that time he fished in seventeen different states and three countries catching basically every species of freshwater gamefish including all six Salmons, Greyling, Steelhead with the exception of Arctic Char and Golden Trout. Saltwater includes Redfish, Sea Trout, Tarpon, Cobia, Cod and a 4 foot Atlantic Wolffish. Will first fished “Big Sam” in 1970 while participating in one of Ray Scott’s early B.A.S.S. tournaments being held at Hank’s Creek Marina. He began guiding bass anglers part time in 1974 and has lived on Rayburn and guided full time since retiring in 1986.

His largest bass to date are 11 lbs. 13 oz., 11 lbs. 4 oz., two 10 lbs. 12oz., 10 lbs. 9 oz., 10 lbs. 8 oz., 10 lbs. 7 oz., 10 lbs. 5 oz. and 10 lbs. 1 oz. Through 2009, he has landed and released 119 bass over 8 lbs. His guided customers have boated and released many large bass including five exceeding 10 lbs.

He started The Fishing Schools in 1989 with Stephen F. Austin State University and continues to hold them at a facility located near Five Fingers Bay on Sam Rayburn Reservoir.

He is the author of The Houston Chronicle’s Freshwater Fishing Blog (http://blog.chron.com/freshwater). This blog gives anglers in-depth seasonal fishing methods detailing appropriate lures, equipment and associated patterns. He is also a field reporter for KILT Outdoors (Houston) radio show.

Will is the Director of “THE FISHING SCHOOLS” which are held twice a year on Sam Rayburn Reservoir and is an active member of the Texas Outdoor Writer’s Association.

Will was chosen by Texas' Governor Rick Perry as one of his three appointees to the State's Recreational Boating Safety Panel in 2009.

Before resigning (after 8 years due to Hatchery Gate now at $53 Million dollars and still not completed), he was one of twelve statewide anglers who were members of the Freshwater Fisheries Advisory Board for Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
